Portland Fashion Week: Emily Katz

by Tina on October 26, 2007

Portland just wrapped up their spring ’08 fashion week this past Wednesday, October 24th. The event spanned just under one week and focused on Eco-friendly designers, something the city is famous for. The event itself did not generate too much press, which is a shame, because although it isn’t the most overproduced or progressive(I think Anna Wintour sat this one out) fashion week on the west coast, there were some cute collections and there was definitely a great cause behind it. The event boasted lines from all over the country, New York, SF, LA and Seattle, but my favorite collection hails from Portland OR itself. Emily Katz debuted her spring collection on Sunday. Her motto is “Sustainable, Elegant, Fashion Forward.” The collection is subtle, feminine, wearable and definitely affordable. I visited her small fall collection online and hand picked a few of my favorites.

Denim low Down: Found Denim

by Tina on October 24, 2007

Like I have said before, it seems like there are far too many denim lines sprouting up in the world of fashion and apparel, that is starts to get overwhelming and daunting; it’s hard to filter through all of it. Well, I’m here to help. Found Denim, a new line out of Los Angeles is a name to keep an eye out for. With fall ’07 as their debut collection, Found Denim is the result of the collaboration of a few denim all stars( Lana Cretz and Sara Watson) plus one(Steve Zeitzoff). There are a few different themes running throughout the collection, but one of my favorites is the “juxtaposition of French New Wave meets Open Road Americana – think Easy Rider meets couture denim. It is meant to conjure classic, timeless 50’s and 60’s inspired silhouettes, and a sense of eclectic, fierce, free spirited rebellious chic.” Available here.

New Arrivals: Eskell at Anica

by Tina on October 23, 2007

One of my favorite online shops is SF’s own, Anica Boutique. I posted Eskell’s spring ’08 collection earlier this month, now its time to feast on the new fall arrivals. This is also the first edition of my segment of posts entitled “New Arrivals”. With all the cute boutiques taking up shop online, it can be hard to keep track of new arrivals, so I am going to pick some of my favorites and share them with you all. This way you can buy all the cuteness before it sells out. You can just sit back and relax; we will do all the work for you.

New Website: Deere Colhoun

by Tina on October 23, 2007

deere colhoun handbag Deere Colhoun is one of my favorite new handbag lines. Based out of sunny los Angeles and created by Lindsey Colhoun, the collection is both funcional and fashionable. Colhoun created quite the buzz after her first season last spring, and has just launched her new website with up to date pictures are stocklists. She uses only the finest materials and most sophisticated shapes, I love the line, and in my(and so many others) opinion, Deere Colhoun has quite a promising future

Sneak Peak: Marcello Toshi Creazioni

by Tina on October 21, 2007

I first heard about Marcello Toshi a year ago from my friend Dena who was doing a story on the line: it was love at first sight. The shoes are designed in Los Angeles and produced by local artisans in Peru, talk about a memorable USP. I bought a style from spring ’07, a size too small, because that’s all that was left. They hurt like freaking hell, but I had to have them. Regardless, on that one special night every couple months, I hoof through the pain, just because it is worth it. Its the whole size too small thing that makes them uncomfortable though, trust me, if they were the right size, I could wear them every day if I wanted to. I got my hands on the spring ’08 look book and I am already having dreams about the collection: its that good.

Trend Alert: Colored Tights

by Tina on October 19, 2007

colored tightsIts friday and I am feeling kinda lazy. This is the time when I cover two topics in one post: hit two birds with one stone, send two e-mails with one click, lift two spirits with one kind word, I can go on and on. Its fall and that means you can stop shaving your legs, just let it all go, because you won’t look any cuter than you will wearing a pair of opaque colored tights. I love wearing tights: but I hate when they ride down and you have to pull them up every 2 minutes like you did when you were five. That is besides the point: I’ve made it easy, I’ve composed a short list of a few places to find a nice selection of colored tights, as well as that pair of cozy black wool tights that will get you through the entire season in style. Also, one of the pics featured is from Bi La Li’s spring collection: I’ve snuck in a little sneak peak, spring ’08 Happy friday!

I just bought five pairs, i love them! They are durable and super high rise. They have sooo many colors, but I suggest purchasing online, as the stores seem to sell out quickly.

I just discovered this site, they have all you really need when it comes to colored tights, and then some.

This london line makes the coziest and most durable tights around. They are a little pricey but well worth the investment.

Don’t tell anyone, but a little bird told me that target has a pretty good selection as well. More of the wham bam thank you mam kinda wear, but hey, they are cheap and cute. Say hi to Milla Jovovich while your at it.

Faux Fashion: Winter With a Conscience

by Tina on October 17, 2007

K, I have to admit, I’ve been know to spend a few bucks on a new pair of leather shoes, and I even contemplated spending my life savings on the “edward” mike and chris leather hoodie this season, but that’s as far as I go. No way would I even go near a real fur coat. I’m creeped out even thinking of the idea. Well, good thing there are others out there who agree: Built by Wendy understands. She crafted a beautiful faux fur coat with wolf buttons and an empire waist, perfect for the impending season change, or the “limbo” we are in now. Its available in white and or black, the latter being my favorite.
