Spring Shopping List: Creatures of Comfort

by Tina on February 24, 2010

Spring orders are arriving like crazy, so I thought it due time to launch my “Shopping List” segment: a list of items I’ll be buying (eventually), broken down by boutique. First up is Creatures of Comfort. I nearly started drooling when I clicked on their new arrivals. Gross I know, but they’re that good:

Jewelry Bite: Tina Frey

by Tina on February 22, 2010

tinafrey1Google Tina Frey and you’ll be asked if you meant “Tina Fey”. But if you keep searching you’ll find designer Tina Frey’s gorgeous hand-sculpted resin jewelry, vases, and other great pieces, not the 30 Rock star. I quickly fell in love with one of her Macy bubble necklaces but was just as impressed with her white flower necklace, and while it’s not her characteristic translucent resin…her new leather handbag collection, made to order.

Standard Finery Spring 2010

Caron Callahan’s Spring 2010 collection of subtle, feminine clothing makes me yearn for the summer. For spring Callahan was inspired by old photos of a quiet beach in Cape Cod and the classic New England weekend. It may not be as romantic, but I’ll be re-interpreting one of these classic weekends at the beach in Los Angeles, hopefully wearing one of these jackets or a pair of those shorts! Standard Finery’s spring 2010 collection will be available shortly at jumelle.

Six Questions With Candice Waldron of Jumelle

by Tina on February 16, 2010

jumelle

Saying I love Brooklyn based boutique jumelle is an understatement. Their mix of classic staples, Parisian-cool wares,  and a grown-up girly vibe sets my heart aflutter every season and it’s reassuring to know that there is such a nice woman behind the boutique. Owner Candice Waldron took time out of her very busy schedule to answer a few of my questions about the boutique, her favorites this spring, and some other stuff:

S.B.: Do you have any favorite new designers for spring?

C.W.: Ostwald Hegalson: I was instantly taken with this line when I came across it last year in Paris. There was no doubt that I would be ordering this collection for the shop. Based in London, Susanne Ostwald and Ingvar Hegalson create narrative prints and employ a kaleidoscope of colors in their designs.

Standard Finery is designed by Williamsburg local Caron Callahan. Prior to starting her own collection Callahan worked at Barneys, Derek Lam and Steven Alan. She has created a collection “for women who love beautiful clothes but don’t need to make a fuss about them.”

Anntian: I have had my eye on this Berlin-based line for a couple of years now and it will finally be available at jumelle this Spring. Anntian is designed by Anne Hilken and Christian Kurt, one of the sweetest couples I’ve met. Their line is artistic, geometric, offbeat and modern.

Mohawk General Store opened in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles about a year ago, and since then I’ve  been waiting for a fully-stocked online boutique to pop up. Kinda strange because I pretty much live right next door to Echo Park but by reading this blog you’ve probably noticed I have a thing for online shopping. Regardless, they’re online now so you (and I) can shop their neatly organized selection of shoes, accessories and home goods from designers like Slow and Steady Wins the Race, Mary Meyer and The Generic Man, all from the comforts of home or work or wherever you shop online.
